Vampire Hunter D
Dragon Ball Z | Vampire Hunter D | Cowboy Bebop | Akira | Neon Genesis | AH My Goddess | Berserk

In the future monsters will inhabit the planet. Humans will cower in their houses at night for that is when the vampires rule. Some towns are tired of living in fear so they hire bounty hunters to get rid of the vampires. One man stands out from the rest, his name, D. D is half human half vampire, a Dunpel. Therefore he has all the powers of a vampire but he can go out at night. D is a quiet person. He only talks when he has something important to say. Most of his answers are one word responses.
The only one he openly communicates with is his left hand. Thats right, I said his left hand. He has a parasite in his hand that talks to him and helps him out from time to time. There are currently two Vampire Hunter D movies on the market. The original from 1985 and the new one called Bloodlust.

Vampire Hunter D (1985)

In the year 12,090 A.D., the Earth has fallen into the clutches of ruthless Vampires. Humans are enslaved by a corrupted feudal system, prey to the whims of Vampiric aristocrats. Only one being has dared to challenge the cruel authority of these arrogant immortals - the mysterious Vampire Hunter called "D".

There is a ton of good action in this movie. If you like blood this is the movie for you. This is one of my favorite movies ever. It is a good movie to watch if you don't want to strain your brain because the story was easy to follow. I only had one complaint about it. The english version voice over was horrible. It made D sound like a wuss. So I recommend to buy it and watch it in Japanese. I give Vampire Hunter D a 7 out of 10.

Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

This movie was quite diffrent than the first one, that might have to do with where it was made. The original is a Jappanese film and this one was made in the United States. In Bloodlust D is paid to find a girl named Charlotte who has been abducted by the vampire Meier Link. This time however he isn't the only person on the job. As it turns out his employer has also hired the Markus Brothers to find his daughter.

This movie has some of the greatest animations that I have ever seen. On top of that it has some of the best action that I have ever seen, there is a great scene where the Markus Brothers take out a town full of zombies. Mixed in with all of this is a great love story. This movie is everything a great anime movie should be.

The Content

The storyline was action packed and unpredictable and at the same time a great love story was worked in so I gave it a 9 out of 10 for the story. The action was great, there were many good scenes with monsters that could do some pretty crazy things. The music was good and it fit the movie well but it was exactly what I expected from this type of movie. Don't get me wrong I liked it but it is just way overdone in this type of movie so I gave it a 6. Overall the Movie is a solid 8 out of 10.

DVD
Video Audio Special Features Overall
8 2 7 5.7

The video quality was above average for an anime DVD I would say about an 8. The audio was a nightmare. When making the disc they set the volume to high making your speakers crack everytime something loud happens, and let me tell you it happens a lot. And it doesn't matter how low you turn the volume the cracking is still there. It get annoying very quick. The special features were very cool. There was a very cool behind the scenes documentry which I found very interesting. Overall I give this disc a 5.7, the audio draged down the score.
